How do you follow an attorney’s advice if you are unsure?

If you find yourself in need of legal services, you may hire an attorney to help you out in these situations. Attorneys are there to help their clients through tough times, but sometimes clients may have reservations about trusting the attorney and their advice. So how do we learn to accept advice and what are the consequences of doing the opposite of what the attorney has said to do?

If you are unsure of the advice given to you, simply ask your attorney. An attorney can clear up any reservations you may have, and will tell you why they have given you the specific advice you are questioning. Remember, the attorney is supposed to advise you and it is important that their advice is followed.

Why should you listen to the attorney’s advice?

An attorney’s main job is to give legal advice to their clients. As a client, we understand how stressful and demanding the legal process can be, which is why we do our best to provide the client with advice to make it less stressful. When you listen to an attorney’s advice, it makes the process much smoother and lowers the risk of other legal actions. When an attorney gives advice, they do so in the hopes of accomplishing a goal they have set. If the advice is ignored, and the opposite is done, it can cause other legal problems to arise, and can prolong the process, making it much more difficult to resolve the legal issue.

From experience, I have seen clients ignore advice given to them by their attorneys and when asked why, their response was that something needed to be done. If it needs to be done, your attorney will likely tell you it needs to be completed. Also, if you are unsure something needs to be completed, ask your attorney. A simple call or e-mail can easily solve this reservation.

Remember, your time and money is at stake. If you want the issue to resolve as quickly as possible, follow your attorney’s advice. If you do not want to waste your money on things that could have been prevented, follow your attorney’s advice, and do not be afraid to ask if you have any reservations or concerns about what needs to be done.
