New Beginnings: What is it like to work in a law firm?

Welcome! My name is Emina Memic and I would like to introduce myself as Richert Quarles P.A.’s new Paralegal. This post will serve as my introduction into my future blog posts. Some of you reading this might want to know about the firm, the people that work here, or you might be interested in entering the law field. I am going to describe my experiences as a new Paralegal; the expectations I had and the reality of working in the law office.

My expectations of what working at a law firm would be like were completely wrong. It definitely is not what you see on television and in movies. My expectations of what a law office was stemmed from episodes of “The Good Wife,” and other TV legal dramas. This was one of my biggest fears applying as a Paralegal, as that atmosphere can be intimidating. Right away, during the in-person interview, I did not feel any sense of intimidation or like I was less than them because they have a law degree and I do not. My attorneys are approachable, friendly, and willing to communicate and understand. The training process has been extremely rewarding, as they teach me new things each day with patience. They rely on me to maintain and run the office as efficiently as possible.

What are my responsibilities as a Paralegal?

If you will be contacting the office, know that I will be your first point of contact. I will greet you over the phone, I will set up phone calls and consultations with the attorneys, and I will be emailing you updates and drafts of documents. Not only do I complete some of the administrative tasks, but I also help prepare the legal documents, compile exhibits, e-file with the court’s e-filing portal, conduct research, and write blog posts.

Basically, my attorneys rely on me to maintain the office, maintain client communication, and maintain client files along with all their documents. If you would like to set up a consultation, please give us a call, and I look forward to speaking with all of you!
